8 Fall Fashion “Must-Have’s”

Fall fashion “must have’s” focuses on layering and transitioning to winter weather, unless you live in a significantly warm climate year round. This season is focuses on the adaption of summer fashion, while incorporating aspects of winter fashion. The color scheme this season is generally neutral, including nude tones, deep tones, and black.

  1. Fur Coats – The recent growing trend of fur jackets and coats has taken over the fashion industry. Not only do they keep you truly warm, they serve as a great statement piece for outfits. They are also a fun alternative to basic jackets. Whether you like them cropped or long, they add a cool aspect to one’s outfit. Up until recently, statement fur jackets were seen as a clothing piece mostly worn by celebrities and high-status individuals, as fur coats can be seen as overwhelming. While it has been a trend utilized by high-status individuals, now it has begun penetrating streetwear trends.

fuzzFur coats are also easily transitionable from daytime to nighttime, making them a resourceful article to acquire. While the look may seem bold, retailers also offer more tamed versions of fur coats. Popular colors I recommend, include, black, white, tan, and baby pink. This is a great way to make a bold statement, while simutaneously staying warm.

  2. Sweaters – When the weather gets colder, summer attire will not suffice to keep you warm. Sweaters are an obvious essential, whether you like them oversized, vintage, or even cropped. It is obvious that sweaters will naturally keep you warm, but do not underestimate the different styles of sweaters, as they seroiusly cater to all consumers. Similarly, the market offers basic sweaters, in every color of the spectrum, as well as more fun, or creative sweaters, that include a unique feature, separating them from traditional sweaters. In addition, sweater dresses are a fun, lazy way to look chic. Not only do you keep yourself warm, but are a simple way to appear chic. In my opinion, you should invest in one men’s sweater, as they are generally warmer. Whether you are looking for turtlenecks, mocknecks, cashmere, knitted, or cable-knit sweaters, there is definitely no shortage of variety with sweaters.
  3. Cardigans – Clearly, an essential piece to every fall wardrobe. Cardigans serve as a great layering piece and also keep you warm. Invest in some high-quality cardigans that actually keep you warm, as you transition to colder weather. Similarly, cardigans are offered in different colors, different materials, and different styles. Personally, I mostly invest in grandpa-like, oversized cardigans. Even better, cardigans can project a casual vibe, depending on what style of cardigan you buy. And, most importantly, cardigans keep you warmer during the fall.
  4. Denim – Denim falls under two categories: denim jackets and jeans (bottoms).
    • Denim Jackets – These are essential for any wardrobe, whatever season it is. Whether you have a grungier style, in which you enjoy distressing, there is a market for that. In addition, classic styles of vintage denim jackets produced by companies such as Levi’s are also a big trend. Denim has always been a prominent and essential aspect of the fashion industry since ‘nam. Denim jackets have adapted, often incorporating textural additions, to make each denim piece unique. While classic blue is one of the most popular colors of denim jackets that are purchased, they come in many different colors, including black, which is my personal favorite. Similarly, in order to stay on trend for this season and with the rise of popularity of floral prints, denim jackets have begun incorporating embroidered denim jackets, which serves as a great alternative to a classic denim jacket. Finally, they are also a great layering piece, which is important for the fall season.
    • Jeans are essential for all seasons and a essential to everyone’s wardrobe. Recently, many styles of jeans have begun to bombard the market.
      • Embroidered Floral Jeans – This incorporates the trend listed below, as floral embroidering in jeans have become such a popular trend. Embroided floral jeans are a fun, alternative to basic pairs of denim that may be considered basic, or even boring. If you want to add some flair to your denim collection, try to invest in a pair of embroided floral jeans.
      • High-waisted jeans – I am a little biased, as I am a firm believer of high-waisted EVERYTHING. High-waisted jeans are a perfect for all seasons, in my opinion, and have become a very relevant trend this year in the fashion industry. Often, high-waisted jeans are paired with a croptop, and as you transition into the colder weather, you can still pair with items that are cropped, including jackets, sweaters, etc.

      • Boyfriend Jeans – OF COURSE. We all love jeans that are comfortable and jeans that are also comfortable. While this can be considered a boyish trend, they are a great piece to acquire. Boyfriend jeans are even better than actually having a boyfriend, and the boyfriend’s of all jeans. Boyfriend jeans tend to be baggy and less form-fitting, and usually are high-waisted. They add an effortless look to your outfit and can be paired with a variety of outfits.
      • Girlfriend Jeans – Girlfriend jeans are similar to boyfriend jeans, and offer comfort. Girlfriend jeans are less looser and more form-fitting than boyfriend jeans. According to denimology.com, girlfriend jeans are “tighter and higher on the hip, with a tapered slim straight leg. It offers a more flattering shape” (Geller). In addition denimology, girlfriend jeans tend to be “slim fit throughout the legs, tight fit on the hips, but with some slouch through the legs” (Geller).
      • Distressed Jeans – Distressed articles have not lost their presence in the fashion industry. Distressed jeans are a great alternative to basic jeans, as well. You can buy distressed jeans in all sorts of styles, including high-waisted jeans, girlfriend and boyfriend jeans, skinny jeans, etc. Distressing gives an outfit an edgy feel, whether you choose to invest in a pair that is extremely distressed or a pair that features little, subtle distressing.
      • Frayed Hem Jeans – While this is still a new and upcoming trend, frayed hem jeans are just another variation of your classic pair of jeans that adds an element to your denim that makes it unique. The fray at the hem of the denim can either be extremely frayed or very sublte, in a way that caters to a variety of different styles. Usually, frayed hem jeans look the best when they are slightly cropped, leaving a bit of your ankles revealed.
  5. Floral – The incorporation and rise of the floral trend has blown up everywhere. Floral is becoming incorporated in leather jackets, jackets in general, tops, jeans, boots, etc. Floral is one of the biggest trends this season and something that you should invest in. Do not worry, while floral seems like a girlier trend, it caters for all sorts of styles. You can find truly girly pieces, grungey pieces, or even fashion-forward pieces that incorporate the floral trend. The biggest trends these past seasons have incorporated sportswear, and in order to create a market that was not centered around sportswear and sneakers, retailers decided to incorporate floral to balance out the current trends this season.
  6. Camo – Camo print has become a very relevant trend for all seasons, especially in the market of young adults, catering to both male and females. Originally, camo originated from the Army and mostly associated as a male trend. Recently, camo made a comeback in the fashion industry, and women, and men alike, hopped on board. Camo articles of clothing are a fun, grungy print that you play with, as prints are a major trend in the fashion industry today. Camo prints can be featured on  tops, bottoms, jackets, and accessories. As we transition to a colder temperature, I would recommend investing in a camo-print jacket, to spruce up your outfit.
  7. Leather Jackets – Jackets are going to be an essential part of your wardrobe, especially during the fall and winter. Leather is chic and can spruce up any outfit, making it a fashion-forward way to look chic. The greatest aspect of leather jackets is that it can easily be transitioned from a daytime look to a nighttime look, making it a versatile trend. Leather jackets come in different types of styles, allowing you to invest or find one that caters to your needs. While black leather jackets are the most popular color for leather jackets, you can also find them in other colors. Great colors for the fall, include black, deep red (similar to mohogany), and brown.
  8. Boots
    • Over-The-Knee Boots – black over-the-knee boots have become a trend in streetwear. In fact, the tall boots that are taller than over-the-knee boots are even in season. The perks include keeping your legs warmer. Over-the-knee boots, specifically black ones, have made a comeback. These boots are an awesome alternative to basic thigh-high boots. Normally, retailers manufacture over-the-knee boots with suede, or faux fur. Not to mention, they are very chic. Over-the-knee boots are available through most retailers, such as, ASOS, Charlotte Russe, Urban Outfitters, and Peppermayo. Flat over-the-knee boots, meaning that they are not healed boots, are quite popular, however, over-the-knee boots with heals are quite popular. The variety of styles of over-the-knee boots caters to most styles and individuals, as there is quite a variety of styles to choose from. Over-the-knee boots have been used by high-fashion designers, as well as regular streetwalkers.

    • Ankle boots – Ankle boots have always been relevant, especially during the fall, as they are not tall enough to survive a winter. To clarify, by ankle boots, I am referring to boots that cover your ankle and covers a little more of your leg. I do not mean the boots that cover only your ankles, these boots are the ones that completely cover your ankles. These are an awesome alternative to regular ankle boots, as they play with taller, ankle boots. Streetwalkers, celebrities, and models have partaken in this trend, as these ankle boots, as they offer a different length of boot to experiment with. Both over-the-knee boots and “above-the-ankle” boots are progression of previous trends, involving basic ankle boots. A fun way to spruce up your ankle boots is by investing in floral-based ankle boots, as they add a cool, fashion-forward element to your shoe collection. In addition, these boots can be worn during a night-out, or simply incorporated in a daytime look, making it a versatile trend. You do not want to miss out on this trend. Retailers have jumped on board, as I just recently bought a pair of floral heeled ankle boots from Target. Retailers everywhere have so many variations of the heeled ankle boots, it caters to most styles and people’s interests.

As the leaves begin to fall, essentially becoming naked, humans go from essentially being naked to layering up.

OOTD – Losin’ My Marbles

Today, with the warm weather in full swing and the Boulder Creek Festival happening, I got to break out my summer clothes and spend some quality time outdoors ON A SWING. I kept my outfit light and airy, with my sleeveless, mock neck, marble-print SWING dress, while sporting a loose-knit, black cardigan, to exude a more relaxed, and effortless vibe.. To spruce up the outfit, I paired the outfit with black, knee-high, lace-up gladiator sandals. I continued the effortless look with a basic, black brimmed vintage. The sandals and the brimmed hat were the accent pieces of my outfit. To compliment and complete the rest of my outfit, I finished the look off with a pair of black and gold circle brow bar sunglasses in order to ward off the sunlight from my eyes.

My outfit today incorporated:

  1. Sleeveless Mock Neck Marble Print Swing DressRagstock
  2. Black Knit Oversized Cardigan With Pockets – Forever 21
  3. Knee-High Lace-Up Gladiator Sandals – Target (ITEM NO LONGER IN STOCK)
  4. Black and Gold Circle Brow Bar SunglassesRagstock
  5. Black Hat With Vintage Embellishments – Forever 21

Oooh, Baby (Pink)!!

Baby pink is the word on the street, and you should take a good, long listen to it. season.

Try switching it up from the dark hues and nude tones, that are currently in this season, with a light touch of baby pink.

Baby pink resembles neon pink, but is a much more mellow variation of this color, leaving you lots of room to experiment with this season with it. Make a not-so-subtle, playful statement, with baby pink overalls from Forever 21, or with a baby pink baseball cap from Urban Outfitters, or even with a baby pink choker from Target. You can even find baby pink sneakers this season, so if you really want to step up your sneaker game this season, try sporting the popular sneaker trend in a baby pink hue. Adidas and Puma have incorporated some baby pink tones into their recent collections.

Baby pink attire is eligible for use by women of all ages, as it a young color for all women to experiment with. Plus, it goes with all skin tones, so baby pink does not discriminate!

Do not worry, you can sport baby pink in any article of clothing or accessory, because there is no absolutely no shortage of baby pink clothing and accessories these days.

It was a hard hit-or-miss with baby pink, as many women have recently been gravitating towards nude tones and dark hues. Luckily, this summer, baby pink is making a presence among fashion retailers, as designers tried to find a happy medium between a fun, youthful color, and a color that could be also be mature and timeless, all while catering to the consumer’s needs. The color itself can be described as a nude, or pastel, pink tone, reintroducing the relevant nude tone trend that has taken over the fashion market. Baby pink is definitely the most playful form of the “nude-ish” tones that continue to keep expanding their presence this season.

There is most certainly a big market for baby pink, as it caters to the needs of women of all ages and skin tones. Older women should not be afraid to try this vivacious trend, as baby pink comes in many hues and caters to many different styles, allowing everyone to play with the fun tone. Similarly, it does not matter what kind of style you sport, whether it be grungy, girly, tomboy, etc., because there is a baby pink something out there for everyone.

Keep it light and airy this season with a neutral, pastel tone pink. Despite the name, it is not just for babies!

Street Style Icons

Who do you look to for your day-to-day fashion inspiration? I constantly am searching for the newest and freshest faces in the entertainment business, who know what to wear and when to wear it.

Every person’s fashion icons are unique to themselves, as you try to develop your own sense of style. Bouncing ideas off of style icons, as well as regular people, can help you form your fashion identity.

My fashion icons include:

  1. Kendall Jenner – Casual, clean lines, minimalist, comfortable and cool are words I would use to describe Kendall Jenner’s style. She always is switching up her looks, often using basics, while including a statement piece to each and every one of her looks. As a model, it is her job to look good and sport pieces that make us all drool with envy. The more beautiful thing about Jenner’s style is that it’s an attainable look for everyone. She sports relatable pieces, such as basic crop tops and high-waisted jeans, that the average American can afford and feel comfortable in. It’s definitely no secret that Jenner loves her crop-tops and high-waisted apparel!

  2. Gigi Hadid – Cool and chic go hand-in-hand with Hadid’s style. She’s often seen sporting lots of chic clothes, and shares a similar style to that of Jenner’s. Both models are friends and bounce ideas off of each other. Hadid’s looks are elegant, and often, attainable for the average American, as well. Clean cut lines are also relevant in Hadid’s style, as she is often caught sporting basics, cool denim, and statement jackets and pieces. Hadid often goes out with a bang!
  3. Vanessa Hudgens – BOHO CHIC. Hudgens can make the best of the best look even more best. Her bohemian vibe and her ability to make things look effortless is a skill that not all can attain. Her style and fashion has adapted into a mature look that everyone can appreciate. Her street style is killer and she does not go unnoticed in my book. She loves her big, flowy pants and I can’t say I disagree with her insane obsession with flowy pants and skirts.
  4. Cara Delevigne – It is so hard for me not to rant and rave about Delevigne’s style, but she’s just so cool. Not only is her personality cool, but her style is absolutely rad. Delevigne is not afraid to take risks and she can always be seen sporting the most in-style items. Everything she owns, everyone else wants to own. Her style is unique, cool, chic, and classic. Delevigne is often caught sporting over-the-top, daring outfits, but somehow these outrageously cool items all seem to make themselves look good on her. Unique is the best way to describe this girl’s ever changing style.

Festies W/ My Besties

Music festival season is upon us, with Weekend 1 of Coachella to kickstart the festival season off just right.

This year’s appropriate festival wear includes:

  1. Two-Piece Matching Set Ensembles: Usually the matching set includes both a top and a bottom matching set, usually incorporating a crop-top and a dress, or a skirt. Ways to wear two-piece matching set ensembles include printed two-piece  sets, velvet two-piece sets, bright vibrant color two-piece sets, and basic two-piece sets, to list off a few ways to sport this relevant trend.
Two-pieces are also usually light and airy, allowing you to be able to move, be comfortable, and dance your booty off. This trend is meant to bring elegance and comfort into one trend.
  2. Body Jewelry and Chains – Body chains have taken over the festival seen. You can wear them with just about anything from two-piece matching sets to crop tops, and high waisted shorts. They are a great way to accent your outfit and add an effortless, bohemian chic look to your outfit. You can see them sported at festivals everywhere, year-round.
  3. Sheer – Whether it’s sheer lace or a black sheer top, sheer is in. Sporting sheer tops with elegant or fun bandeaus or bralettes is the move this season. Light layering is a big key to festival attire, as the temperature of your own body and your environment may constantly change around you. It is light and airy, another big theme of this upcoming festival wear.
  4. Overalls – Denim, not denim, black, white, skirt, shorts, whatever! Overalls are in and are one of the biggest ways to make a statement, be fun, and be comfortable. This is much more of a minimalist, casual look, but with all the variety of overalls, there is certainly no shortage of ways to make this look more updated. Adding a belt, sporting it with a cute bralette or crop top is a great way to finish this look off.
  5. Bodysuits – There is an endless supply of bodysuits wherever you shop nowadays.
Whether you want them low-cut, deep-v, high-neck, etc. there’s most certainly a market for this very comfortable, cute trend. Bodysuits are basically the basics of festival attire, as they can be paired with virtually anything, including flowy pants, high-waisted bottoms, skirts, overalls, etc. They come in all varieties, just like plain white t-shirts do. They are timeless, easy to sport, and a definitive “yes” for this season.
  6. Sequins and glitter – These two are always in for festival season. Glitter and sequins allow you to interact with your inner child and channel some fun into your look. Face glitter, glitter roots, face jewelry…these trends are all in this festival season, as they’ve been around for forever. Sequins and glitter are a fun to dress up, or spruce your entire outfit up and can be a complete game changer. Play with glitter and sequins, and of all different colors to achieve a festive look this season.
  7. Fun buns – This season is centered around fun, practical trends that can be worn functionally at a festival, or a concert. Fun buns are always in, in my book. This season they are especially in. You can wear them in a half-up or wear full on two buns, for double the fun. This playful, flirty trend is a great way to make your whole outfit a little more unique, and the best part? Your hair stays out of your face!
  8. Braids – Incorporating french braids or simple braids to your outfit to finish off a look exudes a sporty look, which is in this season. Look out for braided hair, cornrows, fishtails, and french braids this season, as they are making appearances everywhere. Braids are functional, and similar to fun buns, keep your hair out of your face. For a more chic, effortless, sporty look, gravitate towards braids to complete your look.

Distressin’ Over Nothin’

Do not let anything but your clothes be distressin’ you this season.

Distressed denim, jackets, tops, etc. are a way to jump into this summer season, with a fun statement. You can distress just about anything, from tops to bottoms, and they serve as a versatile look for both women and men.

Whether you debut light distressing or heavy distressing, it adds a more punk, grunge look to your outfit, which is certainly in this upcoming season. Distressed crop tops, distressed denim, distressed jackets, distressed dresses, you name it, they have it.

Distressed denim, in particular has found its’ way back into our beloved hearts, and style icons of every age have been engaging in the trend. Distressing is a fun trend that is great to wear for every day casual wear, as well as a statement piece for a night out.

This is an all ages inclusive trend, as well as an all inclusive gender trend, for both males and females. Best part about it is that it is completely gender neutral! Great for everyone.
how to wear

Not to mention, distressing can update an old article of clothing you never really thought about and is an easy DIY project! It’s not very time consuming, and can really do a lot to an old pair of jeans, top, jacket, or dress you were trying to sell at the nearest Plato’s Closet.

Stop distressin’ about your life, and start distressing your closet. This is a universally awesome trend that you should hop on board for!

All Choked Up

Looking for a quick, easy fix to dress up your kind-of basic outfit? Get choked up this season, because the 90s are making a comeback.

With Lisa Franks’ new eye makeup palette, to the return of crop tops and high-waisted pants, chokers are just another 90s trend that is making a huge comeback.

High-end jewelry designers, such as Michael Kors, Carbon & Hyde, Lili Claspe, Zimmermann, Eddie Borgo, Betsey Johnson and Jacquie Aiche have begun glamorizing the trend, using jewels and diamonds for a more elegant and sophisticated look.

For a more casual look, retail outlets, such as ASOS, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21, have this look in stores and online for purchase.

Mirabel Diamante Star Choker

Models Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have been spotted sporting this trend numerous times. Chokers have become a staple in their closets, as they have been caught wearing a variety of different chokers, some made with diamonds, and other chokers are just made of velvet.

Style Icon and Fashion designer Kristin Cavallari even brought her Laguna Beach staple velvet choker back, Instagraming a photograph of herself in high school sporting a velvet choker. Looks like nothing has changed since the 90s!

Whether they are thick, thin, layered, black, velvet, lace, or made out of diamonds, this trend is a must-try.
