In My Perfect World

If you could construct your ideal world, what would it be like? What is your perfect world?

With all the terror and chaos occurring within the world, this theme of creating the most perfect haven has continuously made its way into people’s conversations, as everyone chimes in an attempt to insert their unique opinion and insight on how the world can get two steps closer to being “perfect.”

If you had all the power in the world, what would you do? What would make you happy? What is your utopia?

It is a hard concept to wrap your head around since perfection is an unattainable quality. It’s one of those questions that makes you think.

I complain a lot, which is a habit I need to completely kick out the window since in ’95. My incessant complaining had me thinking what it would take for me to not nitpick my reality, or find something to complain about.

In high school, I read this Tweet that stated, “People who complain more live longer,” Let’s just say, I took it to heart and ran with it. Oops…don’t trust everything you read on the Internet.

In my utopia, or my perfect world, I would own a bunny. One that was very similar to my last bunny, Tubz. I would want more clothes and shoes, which is very superficial.

In my perfect world, there would be no violent conflict, but better conflict resolution strategies. This utopia would focus on the integration and unity of our world. Of course. along with it, no one would be hungry and there would be homes above everyone’s head.

World peace, right?

I would want more rainbows, the existence of unicorns, no animal cruelty, more smiles, much more kindness, more art, more nature, less societal standards, easier accessibility to opportunities for all, health care for everyone, higher minimum wage, free, or affordable, education, cheaper housing, etc.

This sounds very cliché and probably a bit silly. Honestly, because I am not too sure how to answer this question.

Coming from a college kid’s perspective, I have no idea what a “perfect world” would be like. To a certain extent, the world needs some chaos, in order to evolve, grow and revolutionize.

As I sit here thinking about all the small, or even enormous, issues that I would change about the world, or simply irritate me, I also sit here wondering if there is ever a way to create a perfect utopian, or if these changes that I stand by would truly solve some of the problems, issues, and inconveniences I find myself facing.

Many of the things that our society is currently fighting for, including equal rights, world peace, environmental sustainability, gun violence, bullying, animal cruelty, mental illness, etc., are all issues that I spend a lot of time thinking about. But, will one person’s idea of a solution to that problem, actually result in a solution for all these solutions?

The answer to that question is “no,” but is there really one right answer about how to solve all the problems of the world, including everyone’s personal problems that currently live on this Earth.

We always joke about how “in a perfect world” bad things would not happen, or things could just go our way without having to do anything. To a certain extent, in a perfect world, every single human being would be able to do exactly what their hearts desired and get what they wanted, without having to lift a finger. We conceptualize that if we got everything that we so desired that we would all be eternally happy, and as a result, there would be no problems.

But, these days, everyone seems to have a problem.

In a world where everything we pleased is too attainable, eternal happiness and the diminishment of problems would not occur. Instead, eternal chaos and greed would run rampant. Beyond that, laziness would become a legitimate health issue, in this utopian world.

I have idealized and even resented other people’s realities, wishing I was handed the same circumstances that I witnessed them experiencing. I literally have spent many years obsessing over various people’s  reality, circumstances, and life, constantly telling myself that if I was them and had their life that my life would be perfect.

It is easy to envy a person’s life, or their lifestyles. It is even easier to resent a person for their life, circumstances, opportunities, vacations, money, etc., due to our perception of their life. This leads to a dangerous habit, as you begin playing a victim card, instead of actively attempting to solve problems.

There is no actual guarantee that if you were someone else, or lived their life, that your life would be any easier, or better.

Chaos would result from a utopia, where every single human being could have anything they wanted and do whatever they want.

Our problems, while they are not good per say, allow us to unite and come together with others who may share the same belief. Our problems are also some of the only things in our world that people actually pay attention to, because for some reason people crave problems. Problems keep people aware, conscious, growing, maturing, learning, experimenting, and open-minded.

Human beings may have just been put on this Earth to create problems, or to seek out problems. It is just in our nature!

Our society focuses so intently on the problems that are occurring currently. This can be viewed as a bad thing, but reporting on and addressing problems or mishaps within a society reminds people that there are still so many ways that our world could improve. So, people are able to come together and exert some passion towards fighting to solve, or bring change, towards some of the issues that our society faces.

Problems also allow for the birth of new ideas, new perspectives, and new beliefs. Addressing problems must be followed up with finding solutions to these problems, or attempting to discover a solution that benefits, or assists, the majority of those experiencing a problem first-hand.  Finding a solution brings individuals together, and these individuals all have different beliefs, perspectives, and ways of thinking and problem-solving. With the utilization of more than one individual, the potential to find a uniquely formulated solution from individuals of different backgrounds, beliefs, morals and experiences, is infinite.

There is so much right with the world, but there is also so much wrong in the world.

If I could be a superhero, I would wear a cape and help everyone overcome their problems. But, unfortunately, the extent in which I would like to resolve everyone’s problems is simply requires more than a cape.

My current reality is somewhat utopian.

I would rather choose to be happy and to live my life out than live in a world that would produce absolute chaos, and that would produce and exhibit extremely undisreable results.

I have everything I ever wanted and more right in front of me. I am currently living in a utopia!

The only things I would actively like to change about my life circumstances is having to pay so much money to attend college, in which I would wish for affordable education. I would ask for one more thing, which would be to own a pet bunny.

The idea of perfect is a concept that is impossible to grasp, let along imagine. I do not know what “perfect” would even be like, and I cannot even conceptualize this far-fetched idea. So, I choose to believe that the world I was born into and the life that I have to be (almost) perfect, mostly because I do not know any other life, nor have I ever lived someone else’s life.

What is your idea of a utopian world? What would your utopia be like?

Tricks To Tame Anxiety

1. Acknowledge that you are experiencing anxiety of any sort

2. Focus on breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth

Focus on one thing at a time. Try to get tunnel vision and simply just focus on yourself and your breathing.

3. Repeat to yourself positive, motivating, and reaffirming statements.

Statements that involve the phrase, “I can” are recommended. “I am okay” and “everything is going to be okay” are great, as well.

Anything involving negative statements or negative words are not invited to this exclusive VIP party.

3. Play music that makes you happy

I prefer songs that I can sing along to, or songs from the 90s and the early 2000s.

Music, such as instrumental music, classical music, or peaceful sounds of the ocean or rain, also have been proven to slow down your blood pressure.

4. Light some candles or incense

I love sparking up ten candles and getting an incense burning. There is something calming about burning candles and incense that can calm a mind down.

5. Try to stimulate as many senses, as possible

You have five senses, which include touch, smell, taste, hearing, and vision. Distracting your brain by stimulating as many of your senses as possible is a great solution to alleviating the extremity of your anxiety.

6. Take a hot shower, or a very cold shower

Shocking your body by bathing in somewhat extreme temperatures is a great way to reset your emotions. Your body’s initial shock to the temperature of the water, whether it be very hot or very cold, will help distract you from the anxiety that you may be feeling.

This is a great way to stimulate your senses and put your body in a somewhat calmer state.

I love taking long, hot showers!

7. Intensive Cardiovascular Exercise

A good, intensive cardio workout is a great way to alleviate some anxiety and release some stress. It is also a great distraction from anxiety, as you’re in too much pain and breathing too hard to even realize you are anxious.

I love hiking and try to hike three times a week! The trails I chose to hike usually involve intense and long spurts of uphill climbing. I purposely choose these trails, so I can ware myself down and hopefully get some peace. I tend to treat hikes as my form of physical exercise, so I push myself to go as fast as I can, without any stops, up the mountain.

Luckily, while I am working out, I am also able to enjoy nature and get some vitamin D. The sun and the great outdoors are great things and play a big role in maintaining a healthy mindset.

Not to mention, the views are spectacular! So, the visual stimulation is more than distracting.

Yoga is also great! It combines both exercise and meditation into one, which is like a two-in-one package deal.

Not to mention, they never stop reminding you to breathe and to focus on your breath.

8. Go outside!

I feel like I can breathe easier, even at such a high elevation, when I am outside.

9. Find Safe Things And/Or Places

Anything that feels safe, familiar or reminds you of good memories are things that you should acknowledge and utilize.

When people are experiencing anxiety or any kind of panic, the individual already feels uncomfortable. The last thing that you want is to continue to be uncomfortable in a place that makes you feel uncomfortable, or unsafe. This will only exasperate things!

Find your safe place and your haven.

Suffer in paradise and safety!

10. Lavender

Word on the street is that lavender is great for alleviating anxiety. So, stock up on lavender everything!

Lavendar incense, lavendar tea, lavendar plants, or lavendar essential oils – whatever you can get your hands on!

11. Drink Hot Herbal Tea

Avoid caffeine completely! Stick to herbal remedies, like peppermint tea, chamomile tea, etc.

12. Arts & Crafts

Being creative requires you to use the right side of your brain, a.k.a. you are utilizing your brain, all while distracting your brain, from the anxiety hanging over you.

I love to color! It has healed my soul and served to be such a calming activity.

13. Take Things Slow

Break things down and attempt to tackle your tasks at hand, instead of looking at everything as a huge hurdle that you could not possibly jump. Shorter hurdles are much easier to conceptualize.

Your brain will naturally attempt to complicate and further stress you out about your life, so try not to let yourself spiral.

I love making to-do lists, and breaking down all my tasks and writing it down on paper.

14. There Is Nothing To Be Ashamed Of

This is not your fault. The last thing you need to be doing is blaming yourself, or feeling ashamed.

Ooops, do not forget to breathe.

15. Be Patient With Yourself

This will not be over immediately. If your anxiety is immediately resolved, then that is a miracle!

From experience, as I am trying to come out of an anxious state, I have found that it comes to me in waves. It can be extremely frustrating, but attempting to remain calm is the key.

16. Remind Yourself That You Are In Control

In order to regain control of your anxiety, it is vital that you attempt to remain as calm as possible.

It may take a few tries, or you may not even succeed, but keep trying! You are a warrior.

17. Even If You Fall Victim To Your Anxiety, You Are Strong And That Is Okay

Stop punishing yourself.

Sometimes, you have to accept the fact that your anxiety, or stress, was so overwhelming that it got the best of you, even if you put up a good, hard fight.

You cannot win every battle. But, do remember to fight the good fight.

Feel free to share your tips for alleviating your anxiety!

Just breathe, or find the take a chill pill, right?

June Reflections

The month of June has been extremely exciting, frustrating, stressful, kind, postive, and incredible all at the same time. It is safe to say that is has been a very emotional month for me, full of more incredible memories than bad memories.

I am still continuing to learn, grow, and mature, as the days come to me. I am still making mistakes, though…I am still a human being, and unfortunately, I make plenty of mistakes.
But, what can I say? I am still young and still have a handful of mistakes to continue making.

This month was a month full of growth, re-discovery, discovery, panic, anger, happiness, emotions, and self-awareness.
The stress and the heat of the Summer was beginning to get to me by the middle of the month, as I realized that time was continuing to fly, with or without my consent. As a result, all the things that I had continued to procrastinate still were left undone and unresolved, leaving me in a state of panic.
At the same time that the stress was hitting me, my urge to spend every waking minute outside, playing and enjoying the Sun, began emerging, with or without my consent. I found myself constantly wanting to enjoy my days, doing only things that I wanted to, not necessarily the things that I had to do, which only intensified my stress, as I often ended up choosing to enjoy my life.

I spent a lot of time this month focusing on having fun, or engaging in fun activities that I have always wanted to do, instead of constantly punishing myself for not working hard enough.

I can say with affirmation that I was much kinder to myself this month than I have been in a few years.
I am not ashamed to say that I do not regret any ounce of fun that I engaged in over the course of the last month, and I would not ever take it back.

I spent a lot more time outside, hanging out with friends, doing activities that I love, and learning to relax.
It was much more difficult than one would imagine.

Re-learning to relax, or to let myself relax and breathe, was extremely difficult.
In your head, it is quite simple, as breathing is one of those innate skills that should not take much energy, or stress, to execute. Unforunately, I completely forgot how to execute relaxing  and breathing recently, and re-learning to do something that I have not practiced in a while was difficult.

I am extremely proud of myself for allowing myself to get out of my own head, and finally allowing myself to forgive, to forget, and to just be.
My mind has been working extremely hard recently to hold me captive inside my thoughts, and it seemed like lately my head was the only place that I could reside in.
It seemed like most times I was unable to seperate myself from the capitivity of my head and my thoughts, which often made it extremely difficult for me to simply just enjoy the moments passing by and impeded my ability to have fun.

My prison sentence in the nearest federal brain prison has finally come to an end, and boy, am I glad that it is slowly coming to a stop.

This month, after finally learning to live outside of my brain, I was able to push myself outside of my comfort zone, as I stopped using my anxiety as a valid excuse for everything. Living outside of my head has truly helped me manage my anxiety and panic attacks to a certain extent.

While I still experienced some painful panic attacks, racing thoughts, etc., I have seen progress within my growth. I have been experimenting with various new coping mechanisms, in order to experience blissful states.
I never realized how much my own brain, my own thoughts, and my own irrational fears could take control of my life. Your brain is truly a powerful muscle!

I have been doing my best to take advantage of this new success that I have achieved by attempting to continue to grow and to continue becoming a better person every chance that I can.

Another thing that I have been working hard to do is to SLOW DOWN, in every way, shape, and form. My mind became overtly cluttered and chlosterphobic when I was unable to simply allow myself some time to slow down. When my mind is working faster than I am able to process my thoughts, my obligations, my anxieties, or my fears, I begin to immediately panic and begin feeling like I am drowning in my own thoughts, without a life vest.
Slowing down allows me to simply break down fears, obligations, stresses, etc., without exxassperating an already uncomfortable situation.

Entering every day with a strong and calm mindset is not something that can simply be done. It takes a lifetime of practice, as life is incredibly stressful.

My mind loves to wander, so it is especially important that I keep her on a short leash. In a matter of milliseconds, my mind can turn a seemingly achievable task into the MOST ENORMOUSLY TALL HURDLE TO EVER COME ACROSS. My mind also can turn into a torture chamber in a blink of an eye. As a result, I have made it an utmost priority to work on training myself on catching myself before I let my mind do such unspeakable things. These are all things that can be improved and helped, which is something that I continue to remind myself.

Be kind to yourself and enjoy the beautiful life you live.
Learning to love yourself and be kind to yourself can be as simple as to stop saying that “you can’t” do something, or be better.

I am the most forgetful person when it comes to being kind to myself and learning to let myself enjoy life.
No matter what you have done, or what you are going to do, you deserve to be happy, to enjoy your life, and to have fun! You deserve to laugh and you deserve to feel good about yourself. Try to enjoy, or even celebrate, your existence and your happiness. Share it with the world!
The world, including yourself, spends too much time and effort punishing you and trying to bring you down anyways. So, you may as well enjoy as much of it celebrating and DOING LIFE, in order to maximize your time on this Earth.

Be the light at the end of the tunnel for yourself and for others.
Happiness, joy, and a love for life is contagious, and it will be the only thing I will be catching this year.

Suitin’ Up For Swimming

Bathing suits are a staple part of most individual’s Summer attire, as people gradually begin gravitating towards water as the weather gets warmer.
For those who are lucky enough, swimwear is a part of your wardrobe year-round, as the temperature truly does not decrease for the season of Winter.

Summer is all about a minimal amount of clothing, in order to reassure that your body temperature can remain cool.

Even for those in landlocked states, bathing suits are essential for Summer living, as they have access to pools that ultimately require that individuals wear some sort of bathing suit.

This season take advantage of all the fun trends of this fashion season. You do not want to miss out!

Some styles of swimsuits that are currently popular and are on-trend, include:

  • High-Waisted Bottoms
    • High-waisted bottoms have recently emerged as a front-running trend this season. Swimsuits with high-waisted bottoms have not been in style for a decent amount of time, but suprisingly made a massive comeback.
    • High-waisted bottoms channel a vintage and feminine vibe!
    • For those who are sick of wearing one-pieces, or bikinis, find yourself a bikini with high-waisted bottoms! You will be the trendiest girl by the water.
    • Swimsuits with high-waisted bottoms come in various and numerous different styles, patterns, and colors.
    • While swimsuits with high-waisted bottoms have a smaller market and audience to serve, they still are sold at retailers everywhere! This is a great trend to experiment with and a great way to set yourself and your bathing suits apart from others bathing suits.
    • If you are afraid that you will appear conservative, or outdated, with a bathing suit with high-waisted bottoms, you are highly mistaken! High-waisted bottoms can still be enticing, playful, and flattering. In addition, high-waisted bottoms are extremely trendy and fashion-forward.
    • The trend is much more popular than many anticipated it would be, however, it is slowly becoming contageous. Do not miss your opportunity to channel a vintage vibe with your high-waisted swim bottoms.

  • Cut-Outs
    • This is a huge trend in the swimwear industry this season! You can find bathing suits with cut-outs just about at any retailer, as it has become one of the most prominent trends this season.
    • They may produce unflattering or strange tan lines, but it is most definitely worth it!
    • One pieces with cut-outs are one of the most popular bathing suits this season! Bikini bottoms and tops can also feature the cut-out trend, but cut-outs are most often found on one-piece bathing suits. This may be, because a one-piece bathing suit allows for more room to utilize, experiment and play with the cut-out trends, while bikini bottoms and bikini tops offer limited options to display a cut-out trend.
    • The cut-out trend is extremely playful and is a great trend that emerged from the industry.
    • Do not feel like you are being scandalous, as you will be showing more skin than you normally would if there were no cut-outs in your bathing suits.
  • One Pieces
    • One-piece bathing suits have surfaced and re-surfaced the swimsuit industry, especially over the last couple of years. There is never a shortage of production of various one-piece bathing suits in any retailers!
    • Prior to its’ major rise in popularity, one piece bathing suits were normally worn by older women, toddlers, infants, and lifeguards. Similarly, the whole point of wearing a bathing suit is to show off your skin, or go swimming. It was extremely shocking to discover how many individuals and consumers loved the one-piece trend, as one piece bathing suits can seem fairly conservative, which is the opposite vibe one wants to channel in their bathing suits.
    • One-piece bathing suits are so extremely popular that you can expect to find at least three cute one piece bathing suits at every retailer. Designers have found ways to manipulate the silhoutte of the one-piece bathing suits by incorporating different neck lines, cuts, materials, patterns, or unique cut-outs in order to create a variety of bathing suits that can cater to individuals of all shapes, sizes, and ages.
  • Cheeky Bottoms
    • Cheeky bottoms completely contrast the high-waisted bottom trend that is also taking over the bathing suit industry. While this trend is not for every one, or for people of all ages, it is an especially popular trend for young adults. Cheeky bottoms cater to a more exclusive consumer than normal, or full coverage, bottoms.
    • The industry and its’ consumers are always looking for ways to make swimming suits appealing and attractive to be seen in, which usually entails minimal material. Showing off your body and finding ways to show just a little more skin is something that women, or the large percentage of the market, seek to achieve!
    • You can expect most of your gluteous maximus to be uncovered, but this is not always a bad thing. You will be showing much more booty than you normally would, but often cheeky bottoms can be fairly flattering for individuals of most body shapes. Cheeky bottoms are a way for the bathing suit industry to celebrate and show off one’s assests, without leaving nothing left in one’s imagination.
    • Cheeky bottoms are especially great for those individuals looking to get rid of those pesky tan lines on your booty cheeks.
    • Do not be afraid to try this playful, youthful, and minimalistic bathing suit trend! Show off what your mother gave you and be proud of it.

Let me share with you some of my favorite swimwear companies to purchase bathing suits from!

  1. Zaful Swimwear
    • Zaful Swimwear is an affordable bathing suit company that manufactures bathing suits that range from basic bathing suits to patterned, fashion-forward bathing suits. The greatest part about Zaful is how affordable their bathing suits are, and the second greatest part is the variety of bathing suits that they offer!
    • Zaful Swimwear offers bikini with high-waisted bottoms, as well as cheeky bottoms and full-coverage bottoms, suits with cutouts, suits with patterns, and even one-pieces! Solid colored bathing suits, mixed and matched bathing suits, or patterned bathing suits are all available for individuals for prices that one cannot beat!
One should not expect Zaful bathing suits to last a lifetime, but it will not fall apart on you after one season.
    • They offer a collection of swimwear that is completely relatable for prices that are extremely competitive. The variety of selection of swimwear and swimwear trends that are sold on Zaful Swimwear is extremely impressive, and leads me to believe that any individual could find a bathing suit on their website that suits their style and their needs.
    • The options are truly endless on Zaful!

  2. Maaji Swimwear
    • Maaji swimsuits are some of my favorite swimsuits! Their brand manufactures suits that are full of bright colors, intricate patterns, such as geometric patterns, florals prints, paisley prints, to name a few. Their swimsuits are much more playful, colorful and eccentric than most swimwear companies like to produce. Unlike most swimwear brands, most of their bathing suits are patterned and use eccentric, almost highlighter colors that truly are visually stimulating.
    • The sporty silhouttes of some of their bathing suits are completely unique to their brand. Maaji definitely caters to a larger audience than just beach-goers, as it also caters to those who participate in water sports, or just enjoy a sportier style.
    • Maaji swimsuits tend to channel a more sporty vibe than other bathing suit companies. The brand does a wonderful job of intertwining the worlds of sporty and cutesy very well, as this is often a feat that is extremely difficult to do.
    • In my opinion, Maaji is truly one of the only bathing suit brands that is able to execute a sporty, yet feminine and flirty look very well.
    • While the bathing suits are fairly pricey, Maaji produces quality bathing suits that are guaranteed to last for a few seasons. Similarly, the material that they utilize to manufacture their bathing suits are fairly sturdy, comfortable, and stay on one’s body.
      • One thing that seperates Maaji from other brands is that they manufacture bathing suits that are reversible, so you are essentially paying for two bathing suits in one. Not many bathing suits are reversible, and if they are, the reversed side is often not as appealing as the original side. Maaji produces reversible bathing suits, and both sides of the bathing suit, including the reversed side, are cute!

  3. MIDORI
    • MIDORI is a bathing suit company whose mission is to uplift women who wear their bathing suits. Essentially, their mission is to emphasize the importance of women embracing their natural beauty, their uniqueness, and their natural selves.
Their hope is that their bathing suits will make women feel good and feel confident in the bikini that they are wearing, in the hopes that they will also continue to spread their confidence and uplifting energy to other women.
    • MIDORI mainly manufactures cheeky bottoms, or smaller bottoms, that do not offer full coverage. Their cheeky bottoms are what they are especially known for!
      • The company does however manufacture full-coverage bottoms for those who may not feel comfortable wearing cheeky bottoms that offer minimal coverage.
    • MIDORI loves their playful and bright patterned bathing suits, but they still provide bathing suits in more muted tones for those not looking to shine brighter than a diamond.
    • MIDORI bathing suits are made with a great and durable material that allows them to last more than one season. While all bathing suits should stay on one’s body without question, this is not always the case with bathing suits from other companies. MIDORI’s bathing suits stay on your body no matter what you are doing, as they should!
    • The price range of their bathing suits truly fluctuate, but for the quality and the cuteness of the bathing suit, you will never feel like you are overpaying for their products. MIDORI offers reasonably priced sets, and while some may consider their bathing suits too expensive, the quality and the durability of the bathing suits justify their price points.
    • “Island Honey 2018 Collection”
      • MIDORI’s newest swimwear collection named “Island Honey” was inspired by island life. MIDORI incorporated earthy hues, floral patterns, etc. in an attempt to portray their theme of island living into their bathing suits.
      • The collection introduces a series of new solid colors and prints
        • Solid Colors | Napali, Malu (Black), and Mango
        • Patterns | Frond, Lanai, Bonzai, Pebble, Ilima

Acacia Swimwear, Gypsy Beach, Revolve, PacSun, Roxy, and Target are also some of my other favorite retailers to purchase bathing suits from!
With so many playful and spirited bathing suit trends, this season is gauranteed to be a blast!

Create a bigger splash with your bathing suit this year than someone who has just belly-flopped into the pool! I gaurantee that more heads will be turned towards you than the individual who just belly-flopped into the water.

What are some of your favorite swimwear brands? And, what are some of your favorite bathing suit trends that you are looking forward to trying this season?

Remember that no matter what you kind of bathing suit you are wearing that all that matters is that you feel comfortable, that the bathing suit stays on, and that the bathing suit is waterproof. It is important to feel good in your bathing suit, as it is very easy to feel vulnerable and very insecure in a bathing suit, because you are about 78% naked, leaving very little for the imagination.

Play with these trends, and mix-and-match trends to see what works for you!
This is the year to make a splash in the deep-end of the pool with your fashion-forward, cute, and trendy bathing suit.
The options are endless, and so is our access to affordable, cute, and trendy swimwear.
My, oh, my, are we blessed!
